Interview with Ciaran Kilduff
Ciaran Kilduff has spoken of his hopes for next season after signing for Kildare County on a year’s loan from Shamrock Rovers.
19 year old Kilduff, from Kilcock, said, “This is a big step up for me. I’m looking forward to coming down to Kildare, giving 100% and hopefully get some first team games under my belt.”
The youngster is highly rated at Shamrock Rovers and after a prolific season at under 21 level where he scored over 20 goals, Kilduff made the breakthrough to the first team when he made his debut against Derry City in the Brandywell back in May. He went on to make a further three appearances for The Hoops.
Kilduff played in the Kildare and District Schoolboys League for Clane Boys and Kilcock Celtic before moving to Maynooth Town in the Brenfer League. From Maynooth Town Ciaran Kilduff signed for Shamrock Rovers at under 16 level where he has been since.
The 6ft 3’ striker, who studies Geography, Sociology and Economics in Maynooth College, follows in the footsteps of Shamrock Roves team mate Padraig Amond who spent the first half of last season on loan at Station Road and Kilduff hopes that his spell will just as successful.
He said, “Padraig was here last year and was a success and I want a bit of the same. Pat (Scully) obviously has a good relationship with the club and although I haven’t met up with the lads yet, I’m looking forward to getting started.”
“Padraig has told me a lot about County and how he enjoyed his time on loan and I am looking forward to the experience. If I am half as successful as Padraig was I will be happy”
Kilduff gave an insight into what Kildare County supporters can expect when they see him play next year and his height is obviously an advantage. He said, “I am very strong in the air but I am also pretty quick, I’m not just a target man. I could probably do a job on the wing but I am a striker.”
As well as excelling for the Shamrock Rovers first team, Kilduff is a member of their title winning Futsal side and just recently, he travelled to Portugal as part of the Irish under 21 Futsal team where they took on sides from Portuguese giants Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Although they lost both games, Kilduff said it was a great experience. “We got a bit of a hammering in both games but it was great to be over there. Technically they were on a different level to us and some of them were very good players.”
With Philip Gorman and Ger Robinson already signed up Kilduff joins what will surely be one of the most potent forward lines in the division next season.
