Under 20s commence preparation for new season

Its all change in the underage section of the FAI Eircom League this season with the under 21 league being scrapped in favour of an under 20 competition. Clubs are no longer allowed to play the three overage players which was the case in the under 21 league.

The lack of competitive football for squad players or players coming back from injury in clubs that do not have a team in the “A” Chapionship side (only Limerick 37 in the First Division have one) is a major problem and caused some debate at a recent information meeting for clubs at Abbotstown.

Another departure from the existing regimen is that the league will not be run in tandem with the Eircom League summer season but will instead start in August, which will see it clashing with the traditional Junior, Intermediate and Schoolboy seasons.

It is compulsory for all Eircom League clubs to enter an under 20 side. Details of the makeup of divisions and general rules governing the competition have yet to be finalised by the FAI and notified to the clubs.

Kildare County under 20 manager Thomas Donnelly has already embarked on the recruitment of a squad and to this end the first training session / trials will take place at Newbridge College grounds on Tuesday 15th. July at 7.30pm.

All players are welcome to attend and they can call the manager on .
