Kildare Announce O'Leary Signing

Kildare County have announced the signing of young goalkeeper Danny O’Leary. O’Leary, aged 23, knows what to expect from Dermot Keely having had spell with him at Shelbourne, where he was understudy to both Steve Williams and Alan Gough at different times.

Dermot obviously feels he needs more competition for the goalkeeping position as with Fred Davis expecting a two game suspension and Gareth Byrne still a few weeks away from full fitness, it leaves the Thoroughbreds with Tadhg Murphy as the only fully fit and available goalkeeper. Danny was actually the first ever goalkeeper to stand between the posts for Kildare County, he started the friendly game against Bray Wanderers in Castledermot before returning to his native Sligo.

O’Leary was clearly delighted to link up with Keely again. “Dermot knows what I am capable of doing and hopefully I can help Kildare to climb the table. I have only signed a short term deal but hopefully I can show enough for Dermot to want to extend the contract.”

O’Leary is expected to make his debut at the weekend in the game against Cobh Ramblers.
