Team News For The Weekend Kelly Back for The Thoroughbreds
Alan Kelly is set to return to the Kildare County team at the weekend to add some much needed spark to the Thoroughbreds attack.
Assistant manager John Gill said Alan was actually very close to making it back in time for the game against Athlone but we decided not to risk him to be sure that we did not make it worse, but he is fine now and will be in contention for the game against Cobh.
Kellys hamstring injury could not have come at a worse time for both the team and the player. After breaking into the side, Kelly had started five consecutive games scoring twice as well as forcing the own goal in Kilkenny.
Kildare have since lost both the games that he has missed scoring just the once, Kellys pace and trickery could have been vital to Kildare especially in the recent game against Athlone after Kildare went down to ten men following Fred Davis red card.
Kelly said It has been very frustrating to have to sit out the second leg of our cup final and then a vital league game. I felt that I was playing fairly well up to the injury and hope that if I get the chance to play on Saturday I can get back to playing the way I was.
Competition is fierce for the number 11 jersey following Tommy Dunnes arrival with Kelly, James OCallaghan and Gavin Doyle all in contention. Kelly has noted this, The injury could not have come at a worse time with Tommy arriving. James OCallaghan and Tommy linked up really well at times on Saturday so I might have to patient, but I am determined to take my chance again if I get it.
