Good News on the Injury Front
In further good news for County fans two of the long term injured players who have yet to make their debut for Kildare will continue to step up their rehabilitation in a bid to challenge for a first team place.
Peter Rogers, a midfielder, is very close to being fully fit having started the last two Under 21 games against Bray Wanderers and Shamrock Rovers. He hopes that another 90 minutes this weekend in Kilkenny will have him ready to make his debut against Sligo in Newbridge on the 28th of September.
Rogers, whose previous clubs include Kilkenny, Sligo Rovers and Monaghan, hopes his injury nightmare is coming to an end, "It has been so frustrating, coming to a new Club but not being able to play. I was looking forward to making my mark here at Kildare but to have got injured so soon after I arrived was very disappointing. But hopefully now it is coming to an end and soon I hope to show Kildare fans what I can do." Rogers is a very skilful midfielder whose ability at set pieces will add another dimension to the Kildare attack in the coming months.
Goalkeeper Gareth Byrne is nearing the end of his rehab training and is almost ready to begin full training as he bids to stake his claim for a first team place. Byrne, who won the Premier Division title with St. Patrick's Athletic, hopes that he can soon put his injury behind him, "It has been a hard time for me, having to watch the games from the stand. I know I have something to offer to the team and I am working hard so that I will be fit enough to get out on the pitch."
Mikey McCann (above), the Thoroughbreds lightening quick striker, will miss the trip to Cobh. McCann went over on his ankle last week in training. The injury caused him to miss the recent defeat against Athlone and will again keep him out this weekend. He will however get a run out with the Under 21's in Kilkenny.
Fred Davis has been released from his contract by Kildare County Football Club. We would to thank Fred for all his efforts in the recent months and wish him the best of luck for the future.
