Thoroughbreds secure Cooling for 2008 season
Twenty-four year old midfielder Stephen Cooling has re-signed for Kildare County for the 2008 season. The classy midfielder and dead ball specialist agreed terms with manager John Ryan today.
Stephen first signed for Kildare County at the beginning of the 2006 season following his return from a sports scholarship in the University of Memphis, where he spent two years studying computer technology and starred in the college side the Memphis Tigers.
He became an instant success at Station Road, playing thirty-six games and scoring ten goals in his first season with the club. His contribution was recognised when he picked up the 2006 player of the year award and also lifted the goal of the season (a thirty yard free kick against Limerick, which found the net via the underside of the crossbar).
Cooling’s performances for County did not go un-noticed by Premier Division clubs and he was signed by Waterford City manager Gareth Cronin for the 2007 season. He made a great start to the season for the blues, scoring on his debut on the opening day of the season. His progress however was blighted by injury and he made just four more appearances for the club before returning to County during the July window.
He was ever present in the Thoroughbreds line-up for the remainder of the season, playing in seventeen games and contributing four goals. No doubt he will play a big part in John Ryan’s plans for the coming season.
