County sign keeper
John Ryan's first new signing for the 2008 season is twenty-one year old keeper Charlie Treacy. Austin O'Neill is due to undergo surgery next week to rectify an ongoing shoulder problem and may not be back to full fitness for the start of the new season so it was imperative that cover was proviided.
Charlie Treacy played his schoolboy football with Home Farm and was brought to Oldham by then manager Ian Dowie at the age of sixteen. Charlie says that Irish International John Sheridan, who was with Oldham at the time, helped him immensely while at the club.
While at Oldham he was capped at under 18 level for the Republic and was part of the squad which won the Portugese Tournament in 2004.
Treacy, who lists Peter Scmichel and Shay Given among his heros was at Drogheda United for the 2006 and 2007 seasons, is looking forward to linking up with the County squad for pre-season training in mid January.
